Maersk has opened World Gateway II, a fully automated distribution centre in Singapore, reported the company announced. The US$150 million facility doubles Maersk’s logistics footprint in the city state to 2.2 million square feet.
The 1.1 million square foot hub integrates advanced automation including a Multi-Shuttle System, Automated Storage and Retrieval System and Autonomous Case-handling Robots. The technology is designed to speed order fulfilment, cut lead times and improve accuracy across B2B and e-commerce operations.
Located near Tuas Port and Changi Airport, the centre will serve lifestyle, FMCG, retail, wellness and technology sectors, including luxury fashion and pharmaceuticals. Singapore’s position as a regional logistics hub is expected to help businesses optimise supply chains and improve speed to market.
Asia Pacific’s e-commerce market is projected to reach US$3 trillion, driving demand for enhanced warehousing and distribution. Maersk said the investment will provide customers with greater resilience and flexibility amid shifting trade dynamics.
The facility is both LEED Platinum and Green Mark Platinum certified, featuring solar panels, smart LED lighting and energy-efficient insulation. It supports Maersk’s target of net-zero emissions by 2040 and is expected to create about 500 jobs focused on automation and digitalisation.
