Kuehne+Nagel expands Frankfurt air cargo footprint

Kuehne+Nagel has signed a lease with Fraport AG for a new 7,600 sqm cargo facility at Frankfurt Airport’s CargoCity South, according to a Kuehne+Nagel release.

The facility, due for completion in 2028, is designed to strengthen global air logistics connectivity and reduce aircraft turnaround times. It will provide airside access within the secure airport zone, enabling efficient transfers between terminal and aircraft operations.

The layout includes 16 gates and truck docks to support scalable operations. The expansion will increase Kuehne+Nagel’s footprint in CargoCity South to more than 20,000 sqm, reinforcing Frankfurt’s role as a key global gateway.

Sustainability features include LED lighting, heat pumps, EV charging stations, smart metering and a rooftop photovoltaic system. The building has been awarded German Sustainable Building Council gold certification.

Martin Schaefer, senior vice president Air Logistics Germany, said the new facility will provide infrastructure and capacity to support growth in sectors such as healthcare, semiconductors, high tech and cloud infrastructure.
